Unmasking Satan's Deception: How to Spot False Christians with KJV Truth

Have you ever been curious about Christianity? Knowing God? Been pulled to learn about the Truth? Had an interest in diving into the Bible? But the minute you act on it; you are swiftly turned away because the people you encounter first seem like a bunch of hypocrites? Like they were telling you one thing and doing another? Unfortunately, you are not alone. In a world full of lies and hypocrisy, Satan excels at keeping people blind to the Truth of God, and it’s outright shameful to see those claiming to be Christians turn seekers away with their actions—harsh words, unloving behavior, or outright contradiction to Scripture.

This is why we must ask ourselves, why are we trusting these people are actual Christians and actually know the Truth? Just because someone says they are something, does not mean they really are that! The King James Version (KJV) reveals they may be deceivers in disguise. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 (KJV) warns, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” Satan is masterful at this, using subtle tricks to mislead. This is why due diligence is crucial—don't take claims at face value. Just because someone says they're Christian doesn't make it so.

Satan uses so many tactics to keep people ignorant of the Truth but this method is one we see often. Let's unpack how Satan blinds the world, the shame of hypocrisy, and how to see through the deceit with the KJV, —because truth matters (2 Tim 2:15).

KJV Evidence: Satan's Blinding Tactics

Paul's epistles expose Satan's strategies to keep the world blind. In 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 (KJV), Paul explains, “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” Satan, as the “god of this world,” (2 Cor 4:4) blinds unbelievers to the Gospel of Grace, preventing them from seeing the Truth. This blindness manifests in many ways but hypocrisy, where people claim faith but live contrary to it, turning seekers away, is a main player.

Ephesians 4:14 (KJV) adds, “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” Paul warns of “sleight of men”—deceitful workers who lie in wait, using subtle tricks to toss believers around. These “Christians” who turn people away may be such deceivers, claiming faith but instead serving themselves. Romans 16:17-18 (KJV) instructs, “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Paul urges marking and avoiding those who deceive.

Colossians 2:8 (KJV) cautions, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” Satan uses worldly philosophies and vain deceit to spoil faith, often through “Christians” who blend human traditions with truth. This subtle mixing is dangerous—seemingly right but fatally wrong. 2 Timothy 3:5 (KJV) describes them: “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” They look godly but deny Grace's power, leading to hypocrisy that repels seekers.

Historical Context: Deception Through the Ages

Deception has plagued the church since its beginning. In the 1st century, false apostles infiltrated early assemblies, as Paul warned in 2 Corinthians 11:13-14, transforming themselves into ministers of light. By the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church blended pagan traditions with Christianity, creating hypocrisy that Luther exposed in the Reformation (1517). Luther’s 95 Theses called out indulgences, where “Christians” sold salvation—contradicting Paul’s Gospel of Grace.

Today, Satan’s tactics continue. Romans 16:18 describes this: deceivers use “fair speeches” to exploit the simple. Hypocrisy—claiming Christ while living worldly and not having knowledge of the Truth—continues to blind the world. Paul wept in Philippians 3:18-19 (KJV): “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.” Satan keeps people blind through these false “Christians,” making the faith seem untrustworthy.

The Danger of Subtle Deception

The most perilous deceptions seem right but contain a tiny lie. Satan transforms into an angel of light (2 Cor 11:14), so his ministers do too (2 Cor 11:15). Paul warns in 1 Timothy 4:1 (KJV): “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.” These doctrines mix truth with error, like adding works to Grace (Gal 5:4). Ignorance lets this thrive—don't be deceived by “fair speeches” (Rom 16:18). Ephesians 5:6 (KJV) says, “Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.” Subtle lies lead to disobedience; do your due diligence and “prove all things…” 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Guard Yourself with Scripture

Don't take claims at face value—do your due diligence. Paul urges in 2 Timothy 2:15, study to rightly divide. Seekers must test “Christians” against Scripture, not world standards. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (KJV) warns of Satan’s lying wonders: “Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” Love the Truth—let the Bible be your authority, not man. Guard against hypocrisy, and prove all things with scripture.

Takeaway: See Through the Deceit

Satan blinds the world through hypocrisy, but the KJV equips you to see Truth (Eph 4:14, Rom 16:18). Do not assume people are true Christians just because they say they are—they may very well be deceivers (2 Cor 11:13-14). Do your due diligence—study the Scripture, dive into Paul’s epistles (Romans through Philemon) and equip yourself with knowledge so you can discern and guard your Faith.
